The city is in the process of updating the city’s Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan is utilized in decisions the planning council might make. The plan does not currently contain an art element.
The purpose of this appearance is to ask the Arts Council to contribute to creating page or two of policies and goals for inclusion in the plan, and that could potentially be used when going to the City Council for approval of an art project. They should not be specific, but fairly broad in scope and reflect a long term commitment. The goal is to craft material that is valuable to the city and the Arts Council over time, but doesn’t lock them into specifics.
Based on the Arts Council mission statement, staff will create a draft to bring to the February meeting for Arts Council input.
