Cynthia Welti, Project Coordinator for Greenway Days, a program of the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust, and Jesse Miller, Northwest Craft Alliance.
The Mercer Island Arts Council will help sponsor an Art show during Greenway days, on June 11 & 12, in conjunction with the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust and the Northwest Craft Alliance. Boeing is sponsoring the art show and it will be held in the I-90 Sculpture Garden on Sunset Highway.
Cynthia asked the Arts Council for a contribution of $500 to go toward NW Craft Alliance staffing, security, contracts, etc. She also said that volunteer support would be welcome for the Greenway table at the art show.
Jen Berner advised the Arts Council members that the resources are available in the budget to make a $500 grant. She will provide an application to Cynthia to fill out and submit.
Susan brought up the challenge of parking for such an event. Jen will check with Nancy Woo, who is the Mercer Island representative to the Steering Committee for this event, to assure that she is addressing this issue. Nancy initially suggested the Park and Ride. Beth suggested that Farmers Insurance is also a good possibility.
Susan also wanted to be sure that it was clear that the sculptures currently in the garden are for sale. A procedure for handling sculpture garden sales will need to be established.
Jennifer Berner stated that the Parks and Recreation Department will help raise awareness and interest about this event as well as provide publicity for this event.
Katalin Pearman suggested that Nancy Woo provide Northwest Craft Alliance information on crafters and artisans who will be showing at Summer Celebration! In July so that there are no duplications. Jennifer Berner will email Nancy and have her coordinate with Jesse on this.
It was moved by Member Margaret Minnick to;
Approve Regular Meeting Minutes of March 9, 2005 as written.
It was seconded and the motion passed.
Jennifer Berner distributed the Budget Revenue and Expenditure Summary as well as a 2205/2006 budget report by key account and object code.
Beth reported that she has requested two performers from the King County Performance Network to perform on Mercer Island as part of a program whereby performers go to small cities in King County to casually perform. The Performance Network has requested some financial assistance for the program. The two performing groups we will be supporting include an Indian Chalk Artist and a Big Band. Performances will be in September or October.
Katalin Pearman mentioned that the Hungarian Folk Band is coming to Mercer Island on June 24. She would like to know if there is any way that we (the Arts Council and Parks and Recreation Department) can help with publicity for this group. Jennifer suggested that we could include something in the “Looking Ahead” publication going out to seniors next week.
Judy Leithe reported that the Spring/Summer schedule has been mailed out for the All Island Book Club. There will be an article in the reporter next week about the Shakespeare Festival.
Jennifer will collect hour sheets.
Margaret Minnick has sent photos to Jennifer Berner to email to the architect for the New Community Center.
Susan Landon reported that it has been six weeks since the art was selected for the SEKO (fence) project. It has gone to the developer. There has been a delay due to city personnel changes, but it should be up for viewing by next month.
Jennifer Berner reported that Ali Spietz, has sent out letters to Margaret Minnick and Susan Landon asking them if they would like to re-up for an additional term as well as advertising an additional five positions.
Both Susan and Margaret indicated this evening that they will be unable to return for another term on the Arts Council. However, Susan suggested that members leaving the Council volunteer (without attending meetings) to help train new members.
Jennifer asked members to indicate the positions in which they have an interest for the coming year.
