Call To Order:

Vice Chair, Beth Brennen, called the meeting to order at 6:40 pm at the Mercer Island Library, 4400 88th Avenue SE, Mercer Island, Washington.


Roll Call:

Present: Beth Brennen, Judy Leithe, Katalin Pearman, Cathey Carnes, Peter Langmaid and Councilman Steve Litzow.   Absent:  Erin Curtiss,  Barry Massoudi and Sandra Schilling.

Staff Present: Jennifer Berner, Eileen Hemmis Trifts


Two new members, Cathey Carnes and Peter Langmaid were introduced and welcomed by the Arts Council Members, Councilman Litzow and staff.



There were no appearances.



It was moved by Member Katalin Pearman to;

Approve Regular Meeting Minutes of May 11, 2005 as written.

It was seconded and the motion passed.


Chairís Report:

Beth Brennen reported that the Mercer Island Sister City art exhibit is coming to Mercer Island in conjunction with the opening of the new Community Center.  The Sister City, Thonon les Bains, France, is organizing an art tour in September or October in their city and the surrounding region.  She suggested it would be nice if someone of the Arts Council would be able to attend.


Performance Arts:                               

No report.



Judy Leithe reported that book discussions will continue through the summer at the Library. 


Judy brought in an album of photos from the Veteranís Recognition Project dedication on Memorial Day.  She felt the general public reaction was very positive.  Steve Litzow said there was a good turnout and it was a great ceremony.  Judy also said that attendees were invited to write a note to our military.  These will be sent to active duty personnel overseas.  A copy will also go to Mike Cero, who was on the selection committee and  is currently in Iraq.


Public Art:                   

Jennifer Berner distributed copies of the Artech public art maintenance proposal. She stated that this company currently works with Kirkland, Seattle and Redmond.  Kirkland and Redmond gave them a glowing recommendation. 


It was moved by member, Judy Leithe to:

Take a vote on hiring Artec to maintain the art on Mercer Island.


Katalin Pearman added the following amendment:

To include that this is for up to $3,000 in 2005 and an additional $3,000 in the 2006.


The motion was seconded and passed unanimously as amended.

Community Arts:

Staff Report:   

Jennifer Berner distributed the most recent financial report to the Arts Council.


Jennifer Berner reported that a grant application request has been received from the Mercer Island Players.  She distributed copies of the application.


It was moved by Member Katalin Pearman to;

Grant the Island Players' request for a $500 grant.

The motion was seconded and passed.


City Council Report:                

No Report.



Katalin announced that the Hungarian Folk Band will be performing at the Congregational Church on June 24.  She asked if it could be advertised on the website and anywhere else as appropriate.  Jennifer Berner it could.
