Call To Order

Mayor Alan Merkle called the meeting to order at 7:35 pm in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 9611 SE 36th Street, Mercer Island, Washington.

Roll Call

City Councilmembers Sven Goldmanis, Dan Grausz, El Jahncke, Steve Litzow and Jim Pearman and Mayor Alan Merkle were present. Deputy Mayor Bryan Cairns was absent.

City Manager Report

City Manager Rich Conrad gave a brief report on I-90. Councilmembers Goldmanis, Litzow and Pearman will be part of a panel to interview lobbyists.

Study Session

AB 4018: Study Session on Critical Areas Maps
Development Services Director Richard Hart presented various maps produced with the City’s Geographic Information System (GIS) that show the approximate location of critical areas and the proposed revisions to the Critical Area Ordinance.

The maps the Council reviewed were: (1) Proposed Inventoried Watercourse Map, (2) Landslide Hazard Map, (3) Seismic Hazard Map, (4) Erosion Hazard Map, (5) Bald Eagle Map, (6) Existing Code (Watercourse Analysis Map), (7) Proposed Code - Max. Buffers (Watercourse Analysis Map), (8) Proposed Code - Min. Buffers (Watercourse Analysis Map), and (9) Steep Slope Analysis Map - Proposed change from 30% to 40%.

Planning Schedule:
Councilmember Grausz stated that he may not be able to attend the November 3rd Council Meeting.
