Call To Order |
The meeting was called to order at 5:03 p.m. at the City of Mercer Island Caucus Room, 9611 SE 36th Street, Mercer Island, WA.
Commissioners Blakney, Hill & Maehara. Chief Elsoe, Chief Examiner/Secretary Segle, Police Operations Commander Holmes.
Absent: Fire Commander Mauldin & Personnel and Training Sergeant Burns.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Moved by Maehara and seconded by Hill to approve the minutes of March 8, 2005 as submitted. Motion carried.
Chief Elsoe reviewed the personnel orders with the Commission. He reported that Officer Keith McDonough was promoted to Sergeant and new hire Officer Michael Baker is doing well in the Police Academy.
POLICE AND FIRE ROSTERS:
Chief Elsoe briefed the Commission on the changes to the police roster. He reported that Sergeant Paul Dowd retired and Police Officer Joe Morris resigned. There were no changes to the fire roster.
POLICE ORAL BOARDS:
Chief Elsoe explained that the current entry-level Police Officer Eligibility List has expired. He stated that the Department currently has one vacancy and approval from the City Manager to fill the planned March 2006 retirement of Sergeant Dennis Wheeler. Staff explained that it was necessary to establish a new Eligibility List. MOTION: Moved by Maehara and seconded by Hill to authorize staff to conduct
CIVIL SERVICE RULES LANGUAGE REVIEW – SECTION 8, QUALIFICATIONS FOR POLICE OFFICER AND FIREFIGHTER:
Chief Examiner/Secretary Segle explained that in reviewing the Civil Service Rules, staff noticed that in Section 8, some text was missing in regards to drug test results. Staff proposed draft language which captured the intent of the Section.
Motion: Moved by Hill and seconded by Blakney to approve the draft language as presented by staff. Motion carried.
