Call To Order:

Chair, Barry Massoudi called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm in the Luther Burbank Room, Community Center at Mercer View, 8236 SE 24th Street, Mercer Island, WA 98040.

Roll Call:

Present: Barry Massoudi, Beth Brennen, Katalin Pearman, Judy Leithe and Sandra Schilling.   Absent:   Cathey Boileau, and  Councilman Sven Goldmanis.

Staff Present: Jennifer Berner and Eileen Hemmis Trifts.

Annette Fitzpatrick

Mercer Island Resident

Presentation on a show out of Dublin, Ireland called the “Mercer Island Rodeo”.  This is a comedy group with a likeness to “Saturday Night Live”.  Ms Fitzpatrick is looking for help with sponsorship, airfare for 4 young men in the troop and help with publicity for a September show.

The Arts Council did not commit funding to the group.  Jen Berner said that the Arts Council could help with promotion of the event and possibly space for a community event at the Community Center.  Recommendations for additional possible resources included the city of Seattle, as they have an Irish sister city; the Rotary Club and  Lyons Club.

It was moved by Member Beth Brennan to;

Approve Regular Meeting Minutes of April 12, 2006.

It was seconded and the motion passed.

Chair’s Report:

No report.

Judy Leithe reported that Shakespeare’s Birthday Party was very successful. The magician was great. Following his performance the film “As you Like It” was shown.  A sonnet writing contest was held at the Library as well as at the Roanoke Inn.  A sonnet read off is planned.

Public Art:

Jennifer Berner reported that Wayne Chabre is available any time after June 9 for a dedication ceremony for the railings in the Community Center.  It was agreed that June 15, the date of the next gallery reception, might be appropriate.  Jennifer will check to see if he will be available.

Jennifer said the Gnomes 3 installation should be complete.

Beth reported that the All American Boys Chorus (32 boys) is looking for a venue during the holidays.  She said they are asking $6,500.  Jennifer mentioned that there may be some problem with secular songs and suggested it should be passed by the City attorney.  Barry suggested this be taken back to the Executive Committee to see how it competes with other programs like KC Performance Network.

It was suggested that the Christmas Ship, which usually brings 3-400 people to Lurther Burbank Park during the holidays might be a good venue since Argosy usually has a choir on their lead ship.

Jennifer mentioned that we are coming up on a new budget year, so this is a great time to be talking about these things and if we want to do something new or different.

Performance Art:

Mostly Music in the Park - Sandra reported that the city is currently working on the contracts with performers.  Washington publicity is scheduled to appear in the Seattle Times Festival Guide.

Beth distributed the 2006 list of art gallery shows.
