JOINT MEETING WITH MERCER ISLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT
Call To Order
Mayor Bryan Cairns called the meeting to order at 6:15 pm in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 9611 SE 36th Street, Mercer Island, Washington.
Mercer Island City Councilmembers Sven Goldmanis (arrived 6:18 pm), Mike Grady, Dan Grausz (arrived 6:49 pm), El Jahncke (arrived 6:24 pm), Steve Litzow (arrived 6:49 pm), Deputy Mayor Jim Pearman, Mayor Bryan Cairns, Mercer Island School District Board of Directors Pat Braman, John DeVleming, Adair Dingle, Vice-President Leslie Ferrell, and President Lisa Strauch Eggers, City Manager Rich Conrad, MISD Superintendent Dr. Cyndy Simms, Director of Instructional Services Dr. Gary Plano and Director of Business Liz Dodd were present.
The MISD Board of Directors and the City Council discussed the following questions:
- What are some ways that the Council could help the School Board to ensure that all Mercer Island students meet or exceed the Ends (the Mercer Island School District Board of Directors policy)?
- What obstacles does the Council see that are interfering with each Mercer Island student meeting the Ends? What suggestion do you have to address those obstacles?
The Linkage Meeting was adjourned at 7:00 pm. The Regular Meeting began at 7:08 pm.
The Mercer Island City Council and the Mercer Island School District Board of Directors discussed the following items:
- School Enrollment Projections
- City Survey Results
- PEAK Project Future
- City and School Financial Issues
The Council and the Board of Directors listened to public comment from citizens in attendance.
