Call to Order:
Chairman Bryan Caditz called the meeting to order at 7:33 pm in the Council Chambers, 9611 SE 36th Street, Mercer Island, Washington.
Chairman Bryan Caditz, Vice-Chair Marcia Dawson, Commissioners Emmett Maloof, Lucia Pirzio-Biroli, Carla Weinheimer, Callie Ridolfi, and George Wittman were present.
Richard Hart, Development Services Director and Louis Webster, Associate Planner were present.
There was a single change to the spelling of Commissioner Wittmanís name in the minutes of April 12, 2006. The minutes were approved by consent.
Action Item #1:
The applicant, Lighthouse Properties, owners of the Washington Mutual Bank Building, is requesting a minor exterior building modification, including approval of 4 canopy additions to the existing building and site. The applicant proposes 4 new awnings to be located entirely on the applicantís property at building entrances on the north, east and southeast sides.
Louis Webster gave the staff report and recommended approval of the changes made by the applicant in response to Commission comments at the earlier meeting on April 13, 2006. Ralph Swanson, the applicant, spoke regarding the changes made.
Discussion by the Commission.
Motion by Whitman, 2nd by Maloof: Move to approve, with 3 conditions, 1) consistent column detail with no base unless construction constraints require a base, in which case exposed bolts would be covered, 2) satin or brushed brass detailing on the canopy, 3) radius of the canopies on side and rear to match the radius of the front canopy.
Vote on the Motion: Unanimous approval
Council Liaison: Liaison Dan Grausz thanked the Commission for their work and explained how the Liaisonís role has been revised by the City Council.

Next Regular Meeting:
The next regularly scheduled Design Commission meeting will be May 24, 2006 but nothing is yet scheduled on the agenda. Study session for redevelopment of the old Safeway building on June 28, 2006.
