CALL TO ORDER:

Chair Bryan Caditz, called the meeting to order at 7:34 pm in the Council Chambers, 9611 SE 36th Street, Mercer Island, Washington. 

 

ROLL CALL:

Chair Bryan Caditz, Commissioners, George Wittman, Emmett Maloof and Scott Kuznicki were present.  Commissioners Carla Weinheimer and Lucia Pirzio-Biroli were excused.  Council Liaison Dan Grausz was absent.  There was a quorum.

 

STAFF PRESENT:

Travis Saunders, Planner and Matt Torpey, Planner, were present.  

 

MEETING MINUTES APPROVAL:

The minutes of January 9, 2008 were approved.

 

REGULAR BUSINESS:

 

AGENDA ITEM #1– Pumpkin Development, LLC.  Preliminary Design Review– 2802 & 2806 61st Ave SE

Staff planner, Matt Torpey, provided project information to the Design Commission and recommended preliminary design approval, with conditions.

 

Staff answered questions of the Commission regarding setbacks, landscaping, and parking. 

 

Dan Weller, representing Pumpkin Development, gave a presentation and overview of the project.

 

The applicant proceeded to answer questions of the Commission regarding decks, siding materials, landscaping and parking.

 

Commission Chair Caditz opened public comment.  No public comment was given.

 

The Commission further discussed the proposal and asked additional questions of the applicant regarding building height, landscaping and parking.

 

Commissioner Maloof moved to approve the preliminary design review of the project with the following conditions:

 

  1. All exterior lighting shall be shown on plans.
  2. The windows shall have a darker cladding color as shown on the application.
  3. The landscape plan and the site plan shall coincide.
  4. The columns to the rear of the structure shall match the design of the columns in the front of the structure.

 

Commissioner Wittman seconded the motion.

 

The Commission voted unanimously to grant preliminary approval the project as conditioned.

 

 

OTHER BUSINESS:

  • Commissioners Kuznicki, Maloof and Wittman will not be available for the February 13, 2008 meeting.
  • The next regular meeting will be February 13, 2008.
