CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order at 5:05 pm at the City of Mercer Island Caucus Room, 9611 SE 36th Street, Mercer Island, WA.
Commissioners Blakney, Hill & King, Police Chief Holmes, Fire Chief Tubbs, Police Sergeant Hyatt, Deputy Fire Chief Heitman, Chief Examiner Segle.
(1) New Police Rank of Corporal – Approval of Civil Service Language: Police Chief Holmes and Sergeant Hyatt reviewed the new Civil Service Rules language regarding the newly added rank of Corporal. It was explained that the new rank would replace the existing Acting Watch Command (AWC) system.
MOTION: Moved by Hill and seconded by King to approve the proposed Civil Service language regarding the rank of Police Corporal. Motion carried.
(2) Preference Points for Non-Commissioned Police Department Employees when Testing for Entry-Level Police Officer: Police Chief Holmes explained the benefits of allowing preference points for non-commissioned Police Department employees. Chief Examiner Segle explained that in the past, similar preference points had been awarded to auxiliary (volunteer) firefighters testing for entry-level firefighter positions.
MOTION: Moved by Blakney and seconded by Hill to approve the proposed Civil Service language regarding the addition of preference points for non-commissioned Police Department employees who test for entry-level police officer positions. Motion carried.
