Amber stated that there is money in the budget. Amber will coordinate purchase and pick up with An. An stated that she hopes all Arts Council members will be able to make it, and that City Council member Jane Brahm will be on hand to say a few words.
Staff Report: Amber Britton
Fire Station Art Dedication: Amber reported that the bases for the artwork are in, and the rest will go up on Monday if all goes as planned. There is one requested change from the original artwork to change the color of the arches from red to blue to make them more symbolic of water. Arts Council members agreed with the suggested change.
Amber distributed a formal invitation to the dedication from the Firefighters Union President, Ray Austin.
The dedication is scheduled to begin at 10 am, July 18, at 8473 SE 68th Street, immediately following the opening ceremony of the City of Mercer Island’s new Fire Station 92.
An Tootill suggested the Arts Council provide donuts with sprinkles for the dedication. Amber stated that there is money in the budget to do this. She will place an order with the South-end QFC. Rene volunteered to pick them up. Amber will coordinate with her.
Paulette stated that she will introduce the artists, John Sisko and Jim Brown.
Volunteer Appreciation Dinner: Amber reported that the invitations to the Volunteer Appreciation dinner scheduled at the MMIP Wings N Things concert on July 30 were mailed out earlier this week, and they should expect to receive it soon.
Art Sign Template:
Amber presented several possibilities for new outdoor sculpture gallery art sign templates for the Arts Council’s consideration. Each sign will be 6” x 6”. An Tootill preferred the design with the blue background behind the Artists’ name and title of the piece. She also would like to see the sentence “Scan for price and details for this piece” be larger and more prominent. It was generally agreed that the signs for public art and art for sale should be noticeably different. An Tootill suggested using different color backgrounds to set them apart. Amber stated that the signs will not be completed/installed in time for the unveiling ceremony. She will provide temporary signs.
An will send the information for the two new sculptures to Erin Vivion so that she can post them to STQRY. Pieces will have to be submitted to STQRY in order to get the QR codes.
Juried Art Show: Eileen Hemmis Trifts reported for Suzanne Zahnizer on the status of the Juried Art Show. The call for artists, prospectus and application are complete. They have been sent to the gallery email list. Copies have been printed for the SC information booth as well as the Arts Council booth. A hard copy mailing will go out on Friday to participants from the past two juried art shows as well as other artists that have shown in interest in being notified.
General: STQRY Update: Erin Vivion indicated that she has been busy preparing submissions for STQRY. Amber indicated she will post them after Summer Celebration. Erin read a few excerpts from some of the information that she has gathered. She felt there was a great deal of historical significance in this information. It was noted that City Council member Jane Brahm who has written a book of the Island’s history as well as a member of the Mercer Island Historical Society, would probably be very interested in this information. Erin will scan and email some of the information to Arts Council members that are interested in reading more.
