An Tootill, Chair
The Chair recognized members Paulette Bufano and Linda Iwanyk for their service to the Arts Council. Their terms are ending, and both have declined to renew so this is their last meeting. Cards, flowers and gifts were presented. Rene Strattonís term is also ending this month, but she has agreed to stay on. Thank you Rene!
Rene distributed copies of a draft pdf form that she plans to have artists that wish to be listed in the online directory complete. She hasnít quite worked out how to collect the data since it is not being sent from her personal email, but rather the Arts Council city email. Eileen Hemmis Trifts indicated that she has contact information for many Mercer Island artists that have participated in gallery shows and Summer Celebration over the years. She will gather and forward to Rene.

Outdoor Gallery Signs:
Amber Britton distributed outdoor gallery signs as previously designed. Blue signs represent pieces that are owned by the city. The green ones represent pieces that are for sale. An and Erin, after having viewed the temporary signs (same design as these) in the Outdoor Gallery, thought the signs were too busy and need to be simplified. They also felt they need to be lower to the ground. Rene Stratton made a motion to not order the plaques as designed, but to spend additional time to study it. The motion was seconded and passed.
An felt signs should contain the name of the artwork, name of the artist, city of Mercer Island, a notation that this artwork is for sale, and the QR code. Erin Vivion and Rene Stratton will work on it and make a presentation at the June meeting.
Outdoor Gallery Name: Erin Vivion reported that Jane Brahm is trying to find information on Gretta Hackett, who is purported to have started the Outdoor Gallery. An Tootill has been unable to find any information linking her to the gallery. Amber thought that the Parks and Recreation department sould have some information in the archives, and will research it. An suggested alternatives; Sunset Hwy Gallery or Sunset Gallery after the street name.
Paulette Bufano, Chair
Request from Lance Rhoades:
Lance Rhoades is asking for Arts Councilís sponsorship for a proposed Belgian cinema presentation to the high school French class. He requested $150 to cover preparation, travel and research. This is similar to what he did last year. An Tootill motioned that all in favor of accepting his proposal raise their hand. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
Mosaic Project Update:
Amber reported that the student art installation will happen in June, hopefully before the kids are out of school. There is no date yet, as it needs to be coordinated with the Parks & Recreation Department. The mosaic portion, by artist Jose Orantes, will be delivered and installed sometime in July, weather dependent. It needs to be clear and dry.
Amber said that there are several new Arts Council applicants. Staff has submitted their recommendations, and it now up to the Mayor.
Amber stated that it has been a rough year to get contracts for activities for Summer Celebration. Right now, the only choices for the Arts Council to sponsor are community karaoke or junk chimes.
The work plan and annual report are scheduled to go to the City Council the first Monday in June.
The meeting adjourned at 7:38 pm
