Call To Order

Mayor Merkle called the meeting to order at 6:05 pm in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 9611 SE 36th Street, Mercer Island, Washington.

Roll Call

City Councilmembers Susan Blake, Bryan Cairns, Sven Goldmanis, Dan Grausz, El Jahncke, Jim Pearman (6:20 pm), and Mayor Alan Merkle were present.

Special Business

AB 3708: Council Work Session on Cost and Functional Components of the 1998 Community Center
Mayor Merkle opened the item. City Manager Rich Conrad provided an overview of the Community Center Task Forceís process, findings, and recommendations to the 1998 Council. In attendance from Miller/Hull was Bob Hull, who was the projectís Partner in Charge and Amy DeDominicis, Project Manager and Kirk Robinson, Cost Estimate. They provided history of the 1998 proposed building program. From their original team, Dennis Meyer who is a Principal from the Portico Group provided information about the Mercer View site. The following table captures feedback from each Councilmember on the functions of a future community center:

After further discussion, it was the Councilís consensus that the Councilís Sub-committee on Mercer View be reconvened to propose a decision-making process for the Community Center project that may include (but not limited to) the following: design team, budget, and a financing strategy. Sub-committee members: Councilmember Dan Grausz (Chair), Sven Goldmanis, and Jim Pearman (replacing former Councilmember Clibborn); staffed by City Manager Rich Conrad. The sub-committee will return on November 4th with a proposal for Councilís consideration.
