Call To Order

The meeting was called to order at 5:03 p.m. at the City of Mercer Island Caucus Room, 9611 SE 36th Street, Mercer Island, WA.

Roll Call

Commissioners Blakney and Hill. Secretary/Chief Examiner Segle, Chief Deveny, Police Commander Elsoe, Fire Commander Mauldin, Personnel and Training Sergeant Holmes.
Absent: None

Regular Business

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Moved by Blakney and seconded by Hill to approve the minutes of March 12, 2002 as submitted. Motion carried.

MARCH AND APRIL PERSONNEL ORDERS:
There were none.

MARCH AND APRIL POLICE AND FIRE ROSTERS
There were no changes to the March or April Police roster. There were no changes to the March or April Fire roster.

POLICE SERGEANT ELIGIBILITY LIST
Police Commander Elsoe passed out the evaluation results of the Officers who took the promotional test. Sergeant Holmes passed out the draft eligibility list and a letter submitted by Officer Peter Erickson requesting application of veterans’ preference points to his final score. Staff recommended that the Commission postpone certification of the Promotional Eligibility List until the City Attorney could provide an opinion as to whether or not the veterans’ preference points are applicable in Officer Erickson’s circumstance.

Motion: Moved by Hill and seconded by Blakney to postpone certification of the Promotional Eligibility List until the City Attorney determines if the veteran’s preference points are applicable in Officer Erickson’s situation. Motion carried.

FIRE COMPANY OFFICER ELIGIBILITY LIST:
Fire Commander Mauldin briefed the Commission on the Fire Company Officer promotional testing process and passed out the list with the final results.

Motion: Moved by Hill and seconded by Blakney to certify the Fire Company Officer Eligibility List. Motion carried.

UPDATE – FIREFIGHTER RECRUITMENT PROCESS UPDATE:
Chief Examiner Segle briefed the Commission on the Firefighter recruitment process. She stated that PublicSafetyTesting.com would be providing a list of candidates by the end of May.
