Arts Council Members Present

Bob Still of the Island Players appeared before the Council to discuss performance space on Mercer Island and in the New Community Center.
Approval of Minutes
James Dugan motioned to approve the minutes as written. The motion was seconded and passed.
Performance Arts Report
Susan reported that Carl Bryant of the Design Commission will be the guest speaker at the Mercer Island Arts Council Retreat in September.
In Beth Brennan’s absence, Judy Leithe reported that “Music in the Park” brochures have been distributed. Arts Council members are encouraged to work at the MIP concessions.
Public Art Report
Susan Landon gave a background and status report on the Veteran’s Recognition Project to new Council Members. Five artists have been selected to submit designs for a Pergola which will create a sense of place and will also suit performance needs. The Committee will choose one design in (consult with the Veteran’s) and submit it to the City Council for their approval.
Susan asked that a note be added to the minutes for an update at the next meeting on the completion of the Gallagher Hill project (lights, landscaping, etc.).
A new show opened today featuring the works of Nancy Bogni, James Davis and Wanda Hughs.

Diane reported to the Arts Council that King County Cultural Arts will pay the Arts Council to present an artist to the KC Performance Network in March/April 2004. This year’s category is theatre. Diane provided videos of the artists up for consideration for the Council to view. Diane will procure copies of additional videos for viewing and have them available here at the community center. An email vote will be conducted. Diane will also research the possibility of using the high school gym for this performance.
