Jen handed out the financial report and budget forms to estimate 2002 expenditures for each committee.

Chair Report

Rosalie King
Needs committee annual reports to complete the Arts Council annual report. Update on meeting held with Rich Conrad, City Manager, Pete Mayer, Parks Director and the executive board. Clarified the MIAC is bodied under City Council with staff support from the Parks and Recreation Department. Rosalie put together a draft of an award program, awarding a Mercer Island individual or group for outstanding contributions to the arts. Discussion was held. Amanda moved that we consider having a MIAC award honoring an individual or group that has made a significant contribution to the arts on the island. Motion Carried. Rosalie will draw up the criteria for the award

Public Art Report

Amanda Clark
Gallagher Hill program committee met. They are looking closely at the site and how a piece would fit nicely using the hill. The budget is $25,000. The site needs better lighting. Amanda moved to add $10,000 more to the $25,000 budget for a total of $35,000 with a stipulation that $10,000 be dedicated to light and electrical work. Motion Carried. The Veteran’s Memorial program committee will be meeting soon. Amanda explained the process of the program committee. The Memorial Policy has been redrafted and sent to the committee for review. Paul Wiedan would like to donate a piece of art from his collection to the city.

Marketing Report

Frank Mandanaro
Bids have been solicited from four different graphic artists for the new Arts Council logo. Frank has purchased a photo album to keep all MIAC advertising, photos etc. Members need to give Frank information they want to see in the Reporter. Artist reception once a quarter gathering island artists to network. Lawn and garden art, artistic art in different mediums.

Literary Report

Beth Brennen
Poetry evening for teens at the CCMV café in conjunction with the K.C. library system in April. K.C. pays for three professional poets, the MIAC helps with advertising and refreshments. The Mercer Island Reporter has asked the MIAC to help sponsor a Teen Fiction contest with the Library. Maggie Bennett~ children’s St. Patrick Day program. Contacting three possible authors for a spring program.

Planning Report

Personnel

Heidi O’Brien
Handed out updated hours. Applications will be sent to a contact Rosalie has, and to Kathleen Shafer. Collected Committee preference sheets.

Gallery

Linda Lacey
The Gallery’s 12.5% of the MIVAL show brought in $388. The new show “Melody of Chinese Painting” by Hongduan Yang shows January 8 – March 9.

Funding

Susan Landon
Diane and Susan will work on gathering resources for a temporary structure for MMIP this summer.

Staff Report

Jen Berner/Diane Dobler
The next LAA meeting is January 24th 9:30am at the CCMV. Diane asked if the MIAC would be interested in sponsoring “Puppets Please” for a children’s performance during Spring Break, the cost is $250, the council agreed to sponsor.

Rosalie shared a thank you card from Patti Murphy.
