Rosalie reported on the public art piece located at Luther Burbank Park. Rich was here to update the council on the transfer. The K.C. Arts Commission contacted Rosalie regarding the transfer of the earth sculpture in Luther Burbank Park to the City of Mercer Island when the Park is transferred. K.C. will fix up the sculpture before the transfer. Rich explained the transfer and answered questions. When Luther Burbank park become a City of Mercer Island park in January 2003, that is when the sculpture will become a part of the city’s public art collection. Rich suggested to the Council that they write a letter of support regarding the transfer of the sculpture to City Council.

Performance Arts Report

$8950 has been raised in sponsorships for MMIP. A crepe vendor will work at the Rouge concert, where the sister city association will attend. Doug has booked the K.C. Performance Network production for next year. Book –It Repertory Theatre will present a Dorothy Parker drama on March 1, 2003.

Public Art Report

Amanda Clark, absent
Jen Berner reported in Amanda’s absence that the Gallagher Hill artist has been selected and they are negotiating the exact size and fabrication of the birds’ sculpture. The Veteran’s Memorial town meeting has been postponed until possibly July 3rd.

Martketing Report

Frank Mandanaro
Frank sent a package of Mercer Island information to the elephant artist in New Mexico. More examples of the Arts Council logo were shared.

Literary Report

Judy Leithe, absent
Beth reported in Judy’s absence that the Aaron Elkins presentation had 27 people and went very well.

Two pieces have been sold. Next opening is July 10th. The “Now We Are One” sculpture rededication is June 19th.

Community Arts

Erin Curtiss
The Artists Directory is in the layout stage. Erin will be working on the Arts Award layout. She has come contacts with the schools and will visit them before the end of the year to set up a meeting for late summer.
