Discussion held regarding a bookmark art project for youth, in partner with the schools. Children’s artwork is displayed on a bookmark, and these bookmarks are available all over the island. Rosalie moved to accept the bookmark project idea with details to follow. Motion Carried.
Public Art Report

The piece of art donated by Paul Weiden has been accepted and will be place at Homestead Field. The Veteran’s Memorial Artist Selection Committee awarded the design team of Susan Black and Associations of Seattle the project. Selection will be presented at the November 4th City Council meeting for final approval.

Discussion held regarding the new Literary Event. Judy has been working with the Mercer Island Library to partner with there upcoming season. The Libraries 2003 season will focus on contemporary books while the Arts Council will promote reading classics. The new idea is “An All Island Book Club,” meeting once to discuss the new book and author, reading the book and concluding with a discussion at the end of the read. Books will be chosen from citizens. Rosalie moved to accept the All Island Book Club idea working with the M.I. Library’s book discussion group with details to follow. Discussion held regarding the importance of the selection of the first book. Motion Carried. The spring Literary Event will focus on Shakespeare. Wooden O Theatre will hold discussion of the plays they will be performing next summer at Shakespeare in the Park.

The current show has sold five pieces. Robert Pare of the Gallery Committee will serve has hanging chair for one year.
Erin Curtiss - absent
The Island Players, Mercer Island’s Community Theater group, applied for financial assistance for their 2002-2003 staged reading productions. Heidi moved to support the Island Players in the amount of $500 toward the production costs of their staged readings for the Oct.2002-2003 season.
The Parks and Recreation Department is holding a dedication ceremony for the Pioneer Park improvements on Saturday, October 12th.
