Approval of Minutes

Rosalie King moved that the November meeting minutes be approved as written. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report

Phil King reviewed the financial report. Expenses are just under 60% of budget. However, there are still some outstanding expenses to be received for December.

Chair Report

Susan Landon reported that discussions with Richard Hart regarding the Arts Council involvement in downtown arts will be continued until January. She further reported that Doug Glant is the new Chairperson for the Veteran’s Memorial Commemorative Project.

Performance Arts Report
Doug Glant, Judy Leithe, and staff will meet after the first of the year and proceed with children’s bookmark project.

Public Art Report

Doug Glant reported that the dates have been set for the Veteran’s Memorial Commemorative Project and the projected dedication is set for Veteran’s Day, 2003.
Rosalie King moved that the Guidelines and Standards of Placing Public Art on Public Property that was tabled at the November meeting be removed from the table and approved for a vote. The motion was seconded and carried. The Council discussed and made proposed changes to the City of Mercer Island Guidelines and Standards for Placing Memorial Art on Public Property. Rosalie moved for acceptance of the amended Guidelines and Standards of Placing Public Art on Public Property. Motion was seconded and carried. With the proposed changes, the guidelines and standards will be submitted to the City Council for approval.

Literary Report

Judith Leithe reported that the All Island Book Club has had its first few meetings. A winter schedule has been published which includes an Irish theme in March. Plans for a summer Shakespearean Festival are being coordinated.

Gallery

Rosalie King gave a report on the MIVAL Holiday Show sales. She will attend the King County Arts Commission meeting on December 18.

Community Arts

St. Monica’s School requested financial assistance in the amount of $500 to put on a series of theatre workshops for design and building backgrounds. Erin Curtis motioned for approval of the funding request. Motion was seconded and carried.

Staff Report

Jennifer Berner presented the Council with several options for new business cards. Doug Glant motioned that they Council choose the third option ($30 – Standard business card with black and blue city logo, black printing, and Arts Council logo added to the card). The motion was seconded and passed.

City Council Liaison Report

Sven Goldmanis gave an overview of the 2003 City Budget as recently passed by the City Council.

The meeting adjourned at 7:40 PM. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 8.
