What do you enjoy most about leading your department?
I lead a department full of smart, competent, and dedicated public servants that are working to address a constant variety of new challenges and situations. It is important to me that we do our “best work” as a department for the community on Mercer Island. To get our “best work” done, requires that I use several different “soft” and “hard” skill sets, which in turn ensures that I am constantly challenged to address new and complex issues.
What do enjoy most about working for the City of Mercer Island?
I am constantly learning and developing professionally to address the changing needs of the citizens of Mercer Island and the City leadership. Our department is charged with implementing a significant part of the community’s vision for the island – we handle everything from bathroom additions, to new mixed-use buildings, to the development of regulations that guide future growth. It’s exciting to be part of such varied and challenging work!
