Bomb Threat at Mercer Island's Jewish Community Center (JCC)

Feb 27, 2017 - The Mercer Island Police Department responded to the Mercer Island Jewish Community Center (JCC) at approximately 4:45pm on Monday, February 27 regarding a telephone bomb threat received by a JCC staff member.

Staff members began evacuating the building of approximately 250 individuals as MIPD officers were arriving.  Once the evacuation was complete, Mercer Island officers set up a secure perimeter of the building and requested assistance from the King County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad and K-9 unit. The nearby French American School was also evacuated as a precaution, and neighbors were notified.
Exterior and interior searches of the building were completed and no suspicious items were located.
Mercer Island investigators will be in contact with agents from the Seattle Office of the FBI later this week to coordinate an investigation effort.
The JCC will be open on their normal schedule on Tuesday, February 28.
There is no additional information available at this time.
Queries as to the specifics of the phone call will be handled by the staff of the JCC.
