Westbound I-90 Detour (May 20 and 21)
May 17, 2017 - Over the weekend of May 20 and 21, the I-90 detours return again with a Westbound closure, allowing the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to undertake final preparations for light rail construction.

Since the primary work involves re-striping roadways, this closure is weather-dependent.
Starting at 11:00pm on Friday, May 19, the WSDOT will funnel westbound traffic from Bellevue to the center express lanes for construction purposes. The detour will end as usual by 5:00am Monday.
All westbound drivers wishing to exit onto Mercer Island must use East Mercer Way.
NOTE: Unlike recent Westbound closures, drivers will NOT initially have the option to continue through the East Mercer interchange back onto the right lane of I-90, in order to exit at Island Crest Way, until Day 2 of the closure. The City has arranged with WSDOT to expedite this portion of the workflow as quickly as possible.
As usual, there are no westbound exits from the express lanes.
Drivers wishing to reach Seattle from MI must enter the express lanes at Island Crest Way or 77th Avenue SE.

Currently, this is the final full weekend closure of I-90 planned to allow WSDOT to build all-day bus and carpool lanes next to the regular lanes. This work will allow the center roadway of I-90 to be dedicated to Sound Transit light rail construction, starting June 3, 2017.
