Bomb Threat at Islander Middle School - All Students are Safe
Jan 3, 2018 - At approximately 11:00 am today, the Mercer Island Police Department was notified of a bomb threat at Islander Middle School located at 7447 84th Ave. SE. The nature of the threat was a note.
Police arrived and assisted school staff. Out of an abundance of caution, The Mercer Island School District made the decision to evacuate Islander Middle School of students and staff. Police assisted with the evacuation to the Mercer Island Community and Events Center. The Emergency Operations Center was activated to assist the school district in this event. Mercer Island Police along with School District staff conducted a search of Islander Middle School, deeming the school safe.
Washington State Patrol, School District Staff, City Staff and Mercer Island Police assisted with the reunification of students at the Mercer Island Community and Events Center.
The District placed an adjacent school (Lakeridge Elementary) on a modified lockdown status during the evacuation process of Islander Middle School.
The investigation into identifying the responsible party is ongoing.

All Islander Middle School afternoon activities have been canceled, but the South Mercer Playfields are open for all non-school district activities.
