Luther Burbank Admin Building Resumes Regular Schedule Following Cleaning And Sanitizing

Previous news release

Mar 5, 2020 - Out of an abundance of caution, the City of Mercer Island will be closing the Luther Burbank Admin Building (2040 84th Ave SE) on Thursday, March 5, 2020 for cleaning. A City employee has a suspected, but not confirmed, case of COVID-19, and will self-quarantine at home.  Per Public Health guidance, only close contacts (i.e. people regularly within 6 feet) to a confirmed case will be asked to self-quarantine for 14 days, therefore the building is expected to reopen tomorrow with regular staffing.

The City takes seriously the safety of our visitors and staff and the building will remain closed until the facility can be cleaned and disinfected in alignment with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) standards.

The City would like to stress the importance of staying home when sick, washing hands frequently, avoiding touching one’s face, and taking other preventative steps as follows:
  • Cover your sneeze or cough with a tissue or your arm
  • Clean your work area at least once, ideally twice a day. Don’t forget phones, keyboards, and door handles
  • Forgo the handshake for a wave or “elbow bump”
  • Eat healthy, stay hydrated, and get plenty of rest
During this time of heightened anxiety, our community values may be tested. The City asks all residents to continue to demonstrate compassion and care as we navigate this rapidly evolving global health situation in our own neighborhoods.

For accurate official information and science-based guidance related to the status of COVID-19 it is recommended to look to the CDC and Public Health Seattle-King County websites.

The Washington State Dept. of Health has also established a call center to address questions from the public. If you have questions about what is happening in Washington State, how the virus is spread, and what to do if you have symptoms, please call 1-800-525-0127 and press #.
