Two Suspected MI Cases; City Hall Closes to the Public

Mar 12, 2020 - The City was made aware today of two suspected cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) here on Mercer Island.  Information is limited as the cases have not been confirmed. An update on the suspected cases will be released as soon as it is available.

In addition, City Hall will be closed to the public beginning Friday, March 13. This is in support of the directives issued by the Governor and King County yesterday and to ensure staff safety.

The Police Lobby will remain open to the public for emergencies. Additionally, the Mercer Island Municipal Court will be making operating adjustments. Those will be announced by Court personnel within the next few days.

The City has modified services and increased staff telecommuting where feasible. Contact information for City Hall services is as follows:
  • Building and permitting: contact a Permit Tech by calling 206-275-7605
  • Planning: contact the Planner of the Day by calling 206-275-7729
  • Utility billing and parking permits: call 206-275-7602
The Police, Fire, and Public Works Departments will continue to provide full service.

The City has already canceled City meetings through March 20, and Community Center and Parks & Recreation programs through April 12.  Due to the Governorís order to close all schools in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties through April 24, City buildings closures and programming cancellations will be extended through April 24 as well.  Check the City's coronavirus webpage for a closure summary.
