Pedestrian and Bicycle Facilities Plan

*
A Pedestrian and Bicycle Facility

The City of Mercer Island is updating the Pedestrian and Bicycle Facilities Plan. The Pedestrian and Bicycle Facilities Plan, originally approved in 1996, guides investments and other actions relating to Mercer Island’s pedestrian and bicycle facilities such as trails, crosswalks, bike lanes, and sidewalks.  The majority of the projects and improvements from the 1996 plan have been partially or completely implemented and it’s now time to update the plan.

Thank you to the many citizens who have provided their insight. Citizens were invited to comment at public workshops on October 28, 2008 and on July 22, 2009. The Planning Commission also conducted an Open Record Public Meeting on August 19, 2009.

Next Steps

  • The Planning Commission is scheduled to discuss the plan at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6th in the Council Chambers at Mercer Island City Hall (9611 SE 36th Street).  Although the Planning Commission has closed the public testimony portion, citizens are welcome to provided comments during the “appearances” portion of the schedule.

  • The City Council will schedule an Open Record Public Hearing once the Planning Commission makes a recommendation.  City Council meetings are the first and third Monday of the month, and begin at 7:00 PM.  Council agendas and minutes can be found here.

  • The City Council would then have a second reading of the Pedestrian and Bicycle Facilities Plan at their next scheduled meeting.
