What is the BUG?
The Ballfield User Group was established in 1991. The BUG consists of established organizations whose primary mission is to serve youth and/or adult populations of Mercer Island and who are regular users of parks and ballfields. These include the Mercer Island School District, Mercer Island Parks & Recreation, Mercer Island Boys & Girls Lacrosse Clubs, Mercer Island Youth Soccer Club, Mercer Island Boys & Girls Club, Mercer Island Adult Soccer Association, and the Jewish Community Center.
The main goal of this group is to educate each other and develop an understanding of each others organization mission and programs, and to create accountability between the major users of Mercer Island ballfields. Policies, procedures and fees have been developed over the years via quarterly meetings, policy review sessions, and user and staff feedback.
BUG organizations are allocated prioritized use and scheduling of parks and ballfields with the School District and City receiving the highest priority respectively. BUG users also receive discounted field fees.
