Summer Celebration 2016 theme is “Symphony of Summer” and is all about music! Come enjoy a weekend of musical entertainment and fun all weekend long, July 9th and 10th in downtown Mercer Island. Join us for community karaoke, arts & crafts, community parade, car show, Obliteride Kids Ride, Boat Rides Around the Island, music activities, Food vendors, fireworks, live bands & entertainment, and a Swedish Pancake Breakfast. Festival Dates: July 9 and 10, 2016

Festival Hours:
Saturday, July 9th: 11am to 7pm
Main Festival- Mercerdale Park
(Obliteride Kids Ride at 9am, Parade at 10am.)
6:00pm to 10:15pm: Fireworks Celebration (Luther Burbank Park) with Community Karaoke and a live performance by the Beatniks.

Sunday, July 10th: 10am to 5pm
Main Festival- Mercerdale Park
(Swedish Pancake Breakfast 9am to noon- near stages in Mercerdale Park)
(Car Show 10am – 3pm, Farmer’s Insurance parking lot near Albertson’s)

WSDOT Reports that from Friday, July 8, to the morning of Monday, July 11 – Eastbound I-90 traffic will be reduced to one lane near Rainier Avenue South then rerouted to the express lanes from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

The eastbound I-90 general purpose and HOV off-ramps to Bellevue Way Southeast will be closed from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. A signed detour will be in place.

Set-up & weekend festival: Friday, July 8th, 7:00am through Sunday, July 10th 9:00pm.

  • SE 32nd St. from 78th SE to 77th Ave SE (FOOD BOOTHS)
  • 77th Ave SE from SE 29th Street to SE 32nd St. (VENDOR BOOTHS)
Obliteride Kids Bike Ride & Parade: Saturday, July 9th, 9:00 AM -11:00 AM
(bike ride at 9am, parade at 10am). Route for both events is on 78th Ave SE.
  • 27th Ave from 77th – 80th both ways Closed at 9:00am
  • Sunset Hwy closed at 9am (no access)
  • 78th Ave from Sunset- 34th both ways Closed at 9:00am
  • 80th Ave @ 32nd Closed at 9:00am
  • 77th Ave between 27th & 29th St. Closed at 9:45 am

Fireworks Shuttle:
AVOID the parking and after festival congestion by taking advantage of the hassle free shuttle rides. The Fireworks Shuttle will be offering shuttle rides in a continuous loop from Mercer Island City Hall to Luther Burbank Park from 6:30 pm to 9:45 pm on Saturday, July 10th. At the end of the festival, several busses will be lined up to return riders to City Hall and will loop back until all riders have been transported.

Information Booth:
The Summer Celebration information booth, hosted by the Mercer Island Parks and Recreation Department, is located in Mercerdale Park (NEW LOCATTION THIS YEAR) near the corner of SE 32nd and 77th Ave. SE (next to old Recycle Center in the corner of the park). Here you can get a printed schedule of events, ask general questions about the festival, purchase souvenirs, and get directions. This also serves as Lost and Found so if you are missing and item or find an item, this is the place to go. Large feathered flags will say “Festival Information” posted next to the booth.

First Aid/Lost Child:
King County Search and Rescue volunteers will be on site with their van to provide first aid services and assist with lost children. They are located at the stairway entrance to the Mercerdale Park plaza at the corner of SE 32nd and 78th Ave. SE.

Parking & Bus Transportation:
Off-street parking is available in the streets surrounding the festival. There is no charge to park. Dedicated parking is reserved for volunteers, vendors, sponsors, entertainers, and personnel. The festival is about a 10 minute walk (.61 miles) from the Mercer Island Park & Ride which is served by Route 550 and Route 554.
