Social Media Terms of Use

Terms of Use for MI Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, NextDoor, etc)


This policy refers to the official social media pages operated and managed by, or accounts held by, the City of Mercer Island in Mercer Island, Washington. The pages and accounts were created to provide our citizens and users access to information about the City of Mercer Island, and are monitored by the Communications Manager.

Before posting on these City pages or accounts, please review these terms; a posting on these sites constitutes acceptance of these terms:

“Friending” or “Liking” between the City of Mercer Island and a user/account does not indicate endorsement of that person’s actions or comments.

Comments posted by others (if allowed) on any City of Mercer Island social media site or account are not to be considered the opinion of the City; nor does the City endorse any third-party user comments.

The City of Mercer Island welcomes a person’s right to express his/her opinion and encourages posters to keep comments related to content on the site or page. The City WILL REMOVE any comments that are deemed to be inappropriate or offensive, including comments that: defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or violate the legal rights of others; or that include racism, hatred, slander, threats, obscenity, violence, vulgarity, and/or spam.

The City will also remove: advertisements that have personal information about another person and/or violate a person’s privacy; postings that include copyrighted material that belongs to another person; postings that contain links to inappropriate websites; or postings that are clearly intended to be highly incendiary or are clearly off-topic.

The City reserves the right to remove and/or block anyone who posts inappropriate material as determined by the City of Mercer Island. Posting of photos or videos by anyone other than authorized members of the City staff is not allowed.
