Mercer Island School district (MISD)

  • The Mercer Island School District Wellness Policy was created with the idea that good nutrition and physical activity are essential for students to maximize their full academic potential and to achieve lifelong health and well-being. In 2006 the federal government required all school districts that participate in the National School Lunch Program to have a Local Wellness Policy in place. The MISD foodservice has always been well ahead of the curve, implementing strict policyís to lower fat and sodium, as well as, eliminate trans-fat years before the USDA required.
  • In the SY 2013-2013, MISD foodservice underwent a voluntary Performance Based Review for compliance to the new requirements of the Health Hungry-Free Kids Act of 2010. MISD foodservice was found to be in complete compliance of the new requirements a school year in advance of the July 1, 2014 effective date.
