Island Vibes

Join us all weekend long as we celebrate summer in a tropical way! Activities listed below are specific to the “Island Vibes” theme and will only be around this year so don’t miss your chance to get it on the fun. Picture yourself on a tropical island, sipping a wild harvested coconut, with your only worry being how to find out about all the awesome events happening festival on, because we got you covered!

Sand in the City Sand Sculptures
Sponsored by Mercer Island Center for the Arts and Republic Services
Master sand sculptors will put their creative skills to work making artistic, imaginative sand sculptures. Watch the creative process unfold throughout the weekend as these artists turn 15 cubic yard piles of sand into masterpieces! Great photo opportunities. Your next family holiday card maybe? The sand sculptures are sponsored by the Mercer Island Center for the Arts and Republic Services.

Meet Moana!

Moana from Motunui is coming to Mercer Island and she can’t wait to meet you! Make waves while you hang loose with the ultimate ocean voyager, Princess Moana. Find the "Spirit of Aloha" with Moana as she shares stories, hugs, and takes photos with her fans at this meet and greet event. Don’t forget your cameras!

Seattle Mermaids
Mermaiding. It’s a thing. The Seattle Mermaids are heading to Summer Celebration to share their love of all things mermaids…and pose for a photo or two. The Seattle Mermaids are a collective of artists, performers, and lovers of the water. Come see for yourself what this “Merm Life” is all about and why the Seattle Mermaids believe it’s all fin and dandy! The Seattle mermaids will be selling fun mermaid themed items so don’t miss this “mer-boutique”! Photos with the mermaids will be available immediately after the parade at their booth in ”Aloha Corner”, near the Skate Park in Mercerdale Park.

Island Vibes Photo Opp & Selfie Station
Don’t miss your chance to show off your best selfies or pose for that perfect photo with friends or family at this “Island Vibes” photo station. Tons of props and backdrops will be here to help you make the best creative photos. Tag your photos with #misummercelebration for a chance to win prizes and be used in future promotional materials if your photo is selected.

Surf’s Up! Robo Surfer

Try out your surfing skills…hang ten, catch a curl, and try not to wipe out on this mechanical surfboard challenge provided by John L. Scott. This activity provides you a simulated surfing experience on an actual surfboard over an air cushion ocean that can even make wiping out fun! Challenge a friend to see who can last the longest.

Mercer Island’s BSA Troops & Packs will be on hand to provide activities centered around boating & water safety. Build a boat or race one in the Rain gutter Regatta. We will be providing water blasting squirt guns and plastic boats to let you spray your boat down the rain gutters of Gutter Helmet by Harry Helmet as you race an opponent or just enjoy the fun of the blast. Water activity tables will also be on hand for little ones to splash away the day. Join us for games too such as coconut bowling and flamingo toss!

Luau on the Lake

Luther Burbank Park will be transformed into a “Luau on the Lake” for the fireworks festivities on Saturday night. The first 500 guests will receive a Hawaiian silk lei, courtesy of the Roanoke Inn. Enjoy Hawaiian dancing, singing and entertainment, a family magic show, and the smooth Caribbean Steel Drum tunes of Ian Dobson’s Pan Leggo to round out the night. Some of our best local food trucks will be on site to provide all your food and drink needs and Uncle Stinky’s Magic & Novelties will be selling light-up novelty toys to enhance your fireworks experience. Fireworks, courtesy of the Roanoke Inn, will be shot off a barge on Lake Washington around 10:15pm.
