The City Clerk’s Office supports the City Council and City Manager, coordinates with city departments to prepare council meeting materials, and helps comply with public disclosure and open public meeting laws.The Clerk's office is a valuable public information center where records management is an essential and major role of the Clerk.
The City Clerk coordinates the production of meeting materials for City Council Meetings, provides public notification, and produces meeting minutes. Other functions of the Clerk's Office is to manage requests for public records, serve as liaison to King County concerning elections and voter registration, and to help recruit members to serve on a variety of City boards and commissions.
The Open Government Trainings Act enacted by the 2014 Legislature (ESB 5964, Laws of 2014, Ch. 66) requires training for some local government officials in the fundamentals of the Open Public Meetings Act (OPMA), Public Records Act (PRA), and records retention requirements.
