The City of Mercer Island is a suburban community located in the middle of Lake Washington, between the cities of Seattle & Bellevue. The Interstate 90 Freeway transverses the north end of Mercer Island.
The Mercer Island Fire Department serves the 6.2 square mile island, and the surrounding waters. Additionally the Mercer Island Fire Department assists communities adjacent to Mercer Island through mutual aid and automatic aid agreeements. Those neighboring communities provide the same services to Mercer Island. These agreements result in the "seamless response", which means the closest unit(s) respond to minimize response times and provide higher quality services utilizing tax revenues efficiently.
The Mission of the Mercer Island Fire Department is to contribute to Mercer Island’s reputation as a safe, friendly, economically thriving community in which to live, work, learn, play and visit.
The Fire Department achieves its mission by providing the highest quality local and regional fire prevention, suppression, emergency medical services, rescue, disaster preparedness and community education services possible within the resources provided to the Department.
The Fire Department is professional, compassionate, highly-trained, and committed to state-of-the-art technology to provide services that meet or exceed the expectations of the Mercer Island community.
These services include but are not limited to the following:

It is our goal to provide information to our readers through this website. If you are looking for something and cannot find it here, please email us with your request. Many of our improvements have come from suggestions sent in by readers.
Additionally, the Mercer Island Fire Department is a participant in the King County Fire Resources Plan - a system for sharing resources between jurisdictions. Mercer Island also has several mutual aid and automatic aid contracts with surrounding agencies.
The Fire Department provides these services from two facilities, Station 91 and Station 92. Visit our Station 91 & 92 pages for more information about these facilities and how they are equipped and staffed.
The Fire Department's administrative hours are from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, however the stations are open 24 hours per day for any emergency.
Blood -pressure readings are available at either station. If there are no firefighters at the station to take your reading, it is because they are out providing assistance to someone else.
