Position No. 2, Term 2013

Dan was first elected to the City Council in November, 1999 after having previously served on the Mercer Island Planning Commission, the Tree & Natural Resources Task Force, the School District's Strategic Planning Committee, the Queen Anne Community Council and as President of Citizens to Save Interbay.

Dan has been the Sr. Vice President, Fleet Operations at Holland America Line since July, 2004.  Prior to that, he served as Vice President and General Counsel of Holland America Line from 1988-2004. He received his undergraduate degree in Industrial-Labor Relations from Cornell University. In 1978, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with both a Law Degree and a M.B.A. (from The Wharton School). Dan and his wife, Clare Meeker, have lived on Mercer Island since 1989. Clare is an author of several children's books and a frequent speaker at schools throughout the Northwest. Their daughter Sarah graduated Occidental College in May, 2005.  Their son Sam is presently enrolled at Amherst College.  Both Sarah and Sam graduated from Mercer Island High School.
