Terry Pottmeyer and her family moved to Mercer Island in 1984. She began her involvement in the community while her boys were young, beginning with service on the board of the Mercer Island Preschool Association. She has served on many community boards including the Mercer Island Community Fund, the Mercer Island School Foundation, the MIYFS Foundation, the MI PTA Council and the PTAs of Island Park, Islander Middle School and Mercer Island High School. She served as a member and President of the MI School board and was active for over two decades in the Committee for MI Public Schools. Despite her lack of musical aptitude she has been an ardent supporter of the MI band programs, chairing the campaign to buy new uniforms for the marching band and helping to found the MI Band Boosters. Pottmeyer was named Citizen of the Year, along with Susan Kaplan, in 2010.
Pottmeyer has been an advocate for youth and families for most of her professional career. She recently completed her tenure as President & CEO of Friends of Youth, leading the agency through a seven building, $7M capital campaign while expanding service for homeless youth and young adults. She is currently the Interim Executive Director of Attain housing, providing housing for homeless families on the Eastside. Pottmeyer was appointed to King Countyís Youth Action Plan Task Force as well as the Health & Human Services Transformation Panel.
Terry and her husband Geoff have four grown sons, who successfully and happily graduated from the excellent educational programs available on Mercer Island, from preschool through high school. They have two grandchildren.
Terry earned both her bachelorís degree and law degree from the University of Washington. She is a member of the Washington State Bar Association.
