Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer assists at our front desk
Volunteer assists at our front desk

Put your skills and expertise to good use. There are many opportunities to volunteer with Youth and Family Services and we appreciate the community input and assistance.

Thrift Shop
The Mercer Island Thrift Shop involves volunteers of all ages in all aspects of the retail operation, from sorting, pricing and displaying donated items to cashiering and marketing.  Volunteer opportunities are available Monday through Saturday. Contact: Suzanne Philen (206) 275-7753.

Food Pantry
Food donations come in at varying times throughout the week and seasonally. Volunteers are needed on an ad-hoc, or as-needed basis – usually once per week. This is a good volunteer job for someone who doesn’t want regular hours but can fit in a couple hours here and there. Contact: Cheryl Manriquez (206) 275-7869.

Fundraising Support
Assist during one of the department fundraisers held throughout the year. Past events have included breakfast fundraisers and annual fund drives. Help is needed at event registration and working on event committees. Contact: Kris Kelsay (206) 275-7751.

MIYFS Foundation Board
The Mercer Island Youth & Family Services Foundation Board is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization that raises funds to support the social services provided by the Youth and Family Services department. The Foundation Board members play an active role in fundraising and raising public awareness of the MIYFS’ services. Board members serve on the board for three years and meetings are held monthly. Contact: Cindy Goodwin (206) 275-7749.
