For the eighth consecutive year in a row the national nonprofit KaBOOM! recognized Mercer Island as a 2015 "Playful City USA." KaBOOM!, an organization dedicated to promoting healthy activity for children, selected Mercer Island as one of 212 cities across the country as a Playful City USA community for its continuing dedication to play.

Comprehensive and diverse services include recreation, athletic, social, art, special event, park and facility operations/maintenance, open space acquisition, urban forestry management and other services.
