Luther Burbank...Make it your park
Luther Burbank Park is asset for the Mercer Island community; its open spaces and forests are an important link in the local park system and a verdant refuge along the shores of Lake Washington. For more information about the park as it exists today, click here.
Luther Burbank has the potential to become so much more. Over the course of the past nine months a significant public involvement process has unfolded to help guide the future of Luther Burbank Park in the form of a park master plan. Approximately 15 public hearings, small group discussions, meetings, workshops, Town Halls and City Council meetings have taken place to solicit the community’s ideas and thoughts.
A community visioning exercise preceded the master planning process and resulted in the development of 15 “Design Guidelines” that provided a planning framework for the park master planning effort. This extensive park planning process resulted in a Preferred Concept Design.
On April 17th, 2006 the Mercer Island City Council adopted the Luther Burbank Master Plan. The Master Plan includes a map graphic and written report detailing the new park elements as well as cost allowances for the probable construction of the improvements.
