Call To Order:
Robert Sexton, Chairman, called to order the regular meeting of the Utility Board at 7:05 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 9611 S.E. 36th St., Mercer Island, WA.
Board Members Robert Sexton, Chairman, David Laub, Vice Chairman, Callie Ridolfi, Joel Massmann, Ben Levie and Council Liaison Bruce Bassett were present. Board Members Glynda Steiner and John Ewald were absent.
Staff Members Glenn Boettcher, Terry Smith and Terry Winkel were present.
The Minutes of the October 13, 2009 meeting were approved.
Thea Severn, King County Solid Waste Division
Solid Waste Comp Plan
Thea Severn gave a brief history regarding the development of the preliminary draft of the King County Solid Waste Comprehensive Plan. She advised that the County is currently in the process of considering standardization in waste collection, recycling and education (see Exhibits A and B). She encouraged the City to pursue food waste recycling education for Island residents and the Board to consider touring the Cedar Hills landfill.
Allied Contract Implementation
Glenn reviewed contract implementation steps with the Board, the first step being to encourage residents to switch out homeowner provided cans for carts supplied by Allied. The Board was asked to review exhibit C and submit comments to Glenn.
· No major storm drain projects scheduled for 2010
· The well project is currently on schedule with a completion date of February
· The Lake Line is still on schedule and under budget
Terry Smith made a brief presentation regarding the sewer system comprehensive inspection project (see Exhibit D). He advised that approximately 5/7 of the City’s sanitary sewer lines have been inspected via video and that needed maintenance and repairs are well under way.
Glenn will develop the 2010 Work Plan and e-mail the Board. The next meeting will be scheduled at a later date.
