Parks & Recreation Commission - Minutes Thursday, November 07, 2019
Call To Order: Chair Westberg called the meeting to order at 6.31 pm at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center, 8236 SE 24th St., Mercer Island, WA 98040.
Roll Call: Commissioners Rory Westberg, Sara Berkenwald, Don Cohen, Lyn Gualtieri, Amy Richter, and Jodi McCarthy were present.
Mayor Bertlin was absent.
Staff present were Ryan Daly, Parks and Recreation Interim Director, Tammy Bodmer, Senior Administrative Assistant, and Lauren Chomiak, Marketing & Community Relations Coordinator.
Minutes Minutes from 10/3/19 meeting were presented. Cohen motioned to accept the minutes and McCarthy seconded the motion. Minutes were approved unanimously.

1. Director’s ReportDaly gave the director’s report.
Pumpkin Walk – approximately 2600 people attended.
Upcoming Parks & Recreation events:
The Lighting at Mercerdale Park & Firehouse Munch – December 6, 2019. Sponsored by donors. Richter in charge of volunteer organization.
Arbor Day was a huge success
Current work of P&R Maintenance with Fall clean up
Commission vacancy. Appointment anticipated in December.
Herbicide use recent situation and community communication process
2. Department Marketing & Communication Engagement
Chomiak presented to the Commission on the Departments Marketing & Community Engagement.
3. PROS Plan Survey Discussion
Daly discussed the timeline for getting the survey out to the community. Commissioners will review the draft survey and send comments/suggestions to staff by 11/20/19. Survey will be sent via US mail and Survey Monkey.
Westberg asked Daly to highlight how the public can give feedback. Daly suggested Let’s Talk, open houses, pop up events, schools, Commission meetings, Arts Council meetings, etc. Adoption is planned for late 2020
4. ADMP Update
Daly shared staff presented to Council 10/15/19. Did not make it through the whole presentation as there were many questions. Presented again 11/4/19 to finish presentation. 11/19/19 to City Council.
Next Meeting The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 5, at 6:30 pm, at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center.
