Snow and Roads Update (Feb 9)

Feb 9, 2019 - (9:00am) City crews battled the snowfall all night and continue to operate on plow routes; conditions on the arterials are fair...

WEATHER:  An additional 1-2 inches is still expected before 10am today, but may be localized. Flurries may continue until about Noon. NOAA’s Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for today until 4:00pm. Winds out of the North may gust 15-25 mph at times through at least noon, possibly reaching 30-35mph on the shorelines. Be aware that this is likely to bring down tree limbs and may push over a few trees that are heavily laden with overnight snow.

OUTLOOK:  Temperatures will get very cold tonight, making snowy/slushy roads extremely slippery -- please avoid driving if at all possible. Another weather system is expected to develop late Sunday night into Monday morning with the potential for 1-3 more inches of snow, and then again on Monday night (more detail to come). There could be occasional snowfalls for the next 7 days.

ROADS CLOSED:  The following roads have been closed by the MI Police Dept for safety (this may change at any time):

-- Gallagher Hill
-- Shorewood Drive
-- SE 40th Street: 7600 block to WMW
-- SE 53rd Place: from ICW to EMW
-- SE 70th Street: 7800 block to WMW
-- SE 72nd Street: 8300 block to WMW

Residents should call 9-1-1 for emergencies.
Otherwise call the hotline at 206-275-7608 with snow-related concerns.

For those in Town Center: Caruccio’s will be open at 10:00am to help people in the community during the snow storm by providing FREE coffee, snacks and warmth for those in need.

Many meetings and events for next week have been canceled and are being rescheduled – check the City’s calendar to view a complete list. In particular, the annual Mercer Island Youth and Family Services Foundation fundraiser breakfast (planned for Wednesday, February 13) has been rescheduled to Wednesday, March 6.
