Serve Your City! Council Seeking Volunteers for Three Boards & Commissions!

Jan 10, 2020 - Help improve the livability of Mercer Island by getting more involved in your community.  The City Council is seeking a diverse range of applicants to fill un-expired terms on the Open Space Conservancy Trust, Parks & Recreation Commission, and Planning Commission, effective immediately.

Open Space Conservancy Trust - The Trust was created for the express purpose of receiving and holding such real property, as transferred for open space purposes; for protecting, maintaining and preserving the Open Space Properties; and insuring that the development and use of the Open Space Properties are both consistent and compatible with the intent and purpose of the Trust and the guidelines and polices enacted. Staffed by the Parks and Recreation Department. Seven members meet the third Thursday of every other month at 6:00 pm in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The vacant position expires May 31, 2022.

Parks & Recreation Commission - The Commission advises and prepares recommendations on master plans for parks, trails, open space areas, and other recreation facilities, and advise on the acquisition of park property. Staffed by the Parks and Recreation Department. Seven members meet the first Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm at the Mercer Island Community & Events Center. The vacant position expires May 31, 2020.

Planning Commission - The Commission has the responsibility of reviewing rezones and other land use matters within the City as well as long-range planning for the City. Staffed by Community Planning and Development. Seven members meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6:00 pm in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The vacant position expires May 31, 2023.

Upon appointment, commission members can expect to spend approximately ten hours a month serving on the commission, although the level of commitment may vary.
