Water Conservation Program Elements

To provide Mercer Island residents with regular reminders to conserve as well as general information on how to conserve water, the City has completed a multi-faceted, two-year marketing program. It included:
  • Surveys help establish benchmarks and program parameters, provide standards for program evaluation
  • Be Responsible theme and graphic helps residents clearly identify conservation messages
  • Redesigned utility bills new format allows residents to track their own water usage over time
  • Periodic bill inserts with easy-to-read utility rates, definitions and general water utility information
  • Press coverage providing information to the Mercer Island Reporter
  • Postcard series with helpful reminders and general tips on how to conserve water throughout the year
  • Shower head and shower timer promotions distribution of free, low-flow showerheads and shower timers helps residents save water every day throughout the year
  • WashWise rebate rewards residents for their investment in a water-efficient clothes washer by offering a significant rebate
