Special Events Update
We regret to inform you that the City of Mercer Island Parks and Recreation Department is unable to continue to provide the same community events as we previously have. Due to insufficient funding, the reduction of staff, and the failure of Proposition 1, the City was forced to make a number of reductions in non-essential programs and services in order to balance the 2019-2020 Biennial Budget. Given the City Council's subsequent directive to make a long-term plan for insufficient revenues in the future, spending was further reduced by an additional $1.2 million.
While it is unfortunate that we canít get together for these community events, we do have many great activities and programs in store for you, including Music and Shakespeare in the Park this summer. We hope that you will find a new activity, camp or class for yourself or a family member, or go outside and explore one of our many parks, trails and open spaces!
The following events will not be coordinated by the Parks & Recreation Department in 2019.
Leap for Green Fair
Spring Egg Hunts
All Island Track Meet
Drop-in Adventure Playground
Summer Celebration Festival
Community Camp Out
Movies in the Park
Tree Lighting & Firehouse Munch
