Mercer Island is a member of Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) whose mission is to provide sustainable, cost effective services that protect people and animals, while providing humane animal care, with an emphasis on finding new homes for homeless pets.

By offering services to 25 partner cities and unincorporated King County, RASKC covers 1,100 square miles, using pet licensing fees and donations for funding.  License fees cover life-saving medical services, care for abandoned or neglected animals, returning lost animals to owners, and foster care.
