Concealed Pistol License Information

Mercer Island Police Department accepts applications for Original and Renewal Concealed Pistol Licenses for Mercer Island Residents and out of state applicants only.


Fingerprints are required in order for ORIGINAL applications to be considered complete, we are accepting fingerprints from 3rd party vendors.

The Mercer Island Police Department has reviewed the process of Bellevue Fingerprinting Service (BFS) and has found them to be in compliance with our requirements. While we have found BFS’ process to be in compliance with ours, you are not required to use their services. If you select a vendor other than BFS, please see the additional requirements outlined below.

Renewal applications do not require fingerprints, provided the application is completed no more than 90 days past the expiration date of the existing license.

Applying for an Original Concealed Pistol License

  • Apply and Pay online:  https://mercerwa.permitium.com/ccw/start
  • Make a note of your Permitium application/order tracking number – this will be required for your fingerprinting appointment
  • Schedule Fingerprinting Appointment
    • Schedule with Bellevue Fingerprinting Service online at https://bellevuefingerprintingservice.com/. BFS will submit the fingerprint card to the state for processing on your behalf and notify us once the appointment has been completed.  The cost of BFS' fingerprinting services is the responsibility of the applicant.
    • OR locate a different vendor to take fingerprints, in which case you will need to:
      • Provide the application tracking number along with the following information: Fingerprint cards must include the Mercer Island Police Department ORI WA0170900, and the reason for fingerprinting: Concealed Pistol License.
      • Submit your fingerprint card, sealed by the FBI-approved fingerprinting service of your choice to the Mercer Island Police Department Attn: Records. 

Once we have received notification of your fingerprint appointment or received fingerprint cards in the mail your application will be considered complete. Licenses will be issued to eligible applicants within 30 day from the date of fingerprinting or cards received.

 

To renew a current/valid CPL

Renewal up to 90 days before expiration, Late Renewals are accepted up to 90 days after expiration.

Fee schedule:
Renewal fee: $32.00
Late Renewal fee: $42.00
Replacement License: $10.00

Fees for CPL's are defined and set by Washington State RCW 9.41.070

For online application credit card transactions, a nominal credit card transaction fee, and an online convenience fee will be charged. These charges are non-refundable and will be visible prior to transaction completion. Credit card transaction services are provided by a third-party vendor and the Police Department only collects the fees in accordance with the Washington State statute.

In accordance with RCW 9.41.070 (5), RCW 9.41.070 (6) and RCW 9.41.070 (7), fees associated with applying for a CPL are non-refundable. In the event that you cancel your application, do not pick up your license, or if you are found to be ineligible to lawfully possess a CPL/firearm, you will not receive a refund.
