Divisions

There are five separate review disciplines contributing to the plan review process in the Community Development and Planning Department. Many permit and development applications require review by multiple review disciplines, prior to approval. The disciplines are:

Building

The Building Team consists of the Building Official, Building Plans Examiners and Building Inspectors reviewing construction projects for compliance with adopted building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, energy and accessibility codes. Our experienced staff includes licenses/degrees/certifications in engineering, architecture, electrical journeyman, building, mechanical and plumbing fields.

Land Use and Planning

Our Land Use Planning Team processes all land use and development applications consistent with adopted planning and development regulations. Seventy percent of the team's work is the analysis and issuance of zoning decisions, short plats, shoreline permits, variances, deviations and major design reviews within the guidelines of the Unified Land Development Code.

Stormwater and Utilities

Our Engineering Team consists of Development Review Engineers who review development applications for private stormwater and utility improvements.

City Arborist

City Arborist reviews private development and tree removal applications with an eye for tree protection and retention per the requirements of the City Code. Public Works and Parks staff manage trees on public property.

Fire Permits and Fire Prevention Information

The Fire Marshal's Office provides plan review for Commercial, Residential, and Special Projects.
