Neighborhood Watch

Warning: Member Neighborhood Crime Watch

The Mercer Island Police Department is interested in partnering with residents to prevent crimes from occurring and to report crimes and suspicious activity when they are observed.  Our citizens are our best partners in crime prevention because they are the ones who are familiar with their neighborhoods and can often times spot an out-of-place person, vehicle or activity.  Neighbors watching out for neighbors is one of the best tools we can employ in the fight against crime.

Successful Neighborhood Watch programs:

  • Emphasize techniques to reduce the risk of being a crime victim
  • Teach citizens to recognize and report suspicious activity
  • Teach residents how to make homes more secure
  • Allows for communication between neighborhoods and the police department, giving residents greater access to criminal activity information and one-on-one interaction with law enforcement officers
  • Encourage neighbors to know one another
  • Participate in National Night Out Against Crime the first Tuesday of August

If you are interested in hosting a Neighborhood Watch party in your neighborhood, please contact Corporal Samantha Hammer at samantha.hammer@mercerisland.gov.
